Through the use of multiple photographs many types of works can be created. I have taken my interest in the narrative possibilities of multiple photographs and combined it with my interest in the interactions of man and nature. There is an investigation of man’s ability to be at once a part of nature and separate from it. I use myself as the "man in the suit" character, and clothing him in contemporary business wear create an accessible "everyman" figure. Set in the woods and through ritualistic poses and actions a narrative is created. I use the "man in the suit" as the |
personification of the collective unconscious, attempting to tap into the knowledge of man’s past buried deep within the mind. As this character I alter the existing surroundings and keeping the actions very instinctive attempt to exaggerate the contrast between nature and civilization. My works are built not only in nature and from nature, but also with various methods of assembling the photographs. The photographs create their own structure and language for viewing the photographic content. Whether it is a grave or a large construction from fallen trees, all are created to affect the viewer, to make them consider their place between nature and civilization. |
